Catalogue for Philanthropy CONTACT:124 Watertown St., Suite 3B Watertown, MA 02472 617-923-8400 www.cfp-ma.orgCarl Mastandrea, COO
DESCRIPTION:The Catalogue for Philanthropy is building—on our website—a permanent beneficial resource for Massachusetts philanthropy: the identification, charting and mapping — for donors, grantmakers and strategists — of the entire sector that is of general philanthropic interest. Donors statewide and beyond will be able to visit, survey, explore and discover for themselves the Massachusetts sector as a whole — and where they would like to get more involved, to make a difference. Our sector will be for the first time fully visible, transparent and accessible to the entire Massachusetts philanthropic community. It will place Massachusetts in the lead nationwide in making our philanthropic community fully accessible and understandable to everyone, as an organized system.
Your donation will help support our efforts and act as a multiplier of philanthropic dollars into our community.
The Catalogue for Philanthropy itself is a multiplier. Within our first four years of existence, Massachusetts giving doubled, from $2 billion to $4 billion a year—significantly beyond the rate of increase of the second-place state (80%). We do not claim exclusive credit for this, but we are confident our work played a significant role (no other causes unique to MA have been identified).
We know that we have directly raised at least $15 million for charities — at no cost to them — who have been selected to be in our annual Catalogue, including an additional $5 million (total: $20 million) to pay for the effort. We also know that this is an underreported figure, because we encourage donors to give directly to charities and their reporting of new donations is not yet systematic. The Catalogue has also directly helped to create two new community foundations—which are engines for increasing charitable giving at community levels—while assisting in the creation of three more.
Please consider becoming a part of our network of donors with your own generous contribution.
