DESCRIPTION:Heard any new old music lately? You have if you have listened to Amherst Early Music! AEM, whose mission is to promote the appreciation, study and instruction of music and the arts before the 19th century, is the largest and most comprehensive teaching music festival for historical performance in the world. Held at Bennington College in Vermont for two weeks in July, its diverse programs include Recorder, Viol, Voice, Baroque Strings, Harpsichord, Reeds, Brass, Lute, Harp and Historical Dance and is open to amateurs, pre-professional and professional musicians alike. Consistently attracting over 500 lovers of early music, AEM's Festival provides a cornerstone for the training of musicians in Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque musical styles, and its former students are among today's leading professionals in early music. AEM also produces performing editions of renaissance music, and is in the process of producing the first modern edition of Canti C, first published by Ottaviano Petrucci in Italy in 1504. Some of this music will be available to the public for the first time ever, but AEM needs funding to cover the cost of printing and production. If you believe that everything old can be new again, please help. (2005: CULTURE: Arts: Performing: Music and Dance)
