DESCRIPTION:

Hubie Jones, who has been heavily involved in over 30 Boston philanthropic organizations, heard the renowned Chicago Children’s Choir and thought, if Chicago can do it, why can’t Boston? So in 2003 he founded the Boston Children’s Chorus, to promote artistic excellence and social change together. In only four years, BCC has grown from one program for 20, to nine programs at four locations for nearly 300 children and youth from more than 50 Greater Boston communities—all races, religions and economic backgrounds. Their in-depth, high-quality music education program focuses on skill-building in vocal musicianship, theory and performance. Their multilevel choir programs and summer camp (with slidingscale tuition) are designed to enhance the accessible landscape of first-class arts programs for Boston’s youth. BCC has presented over 150 performances, and been heard by millions on television—at the Boston Pops July 4th, the Democratic National Convention, on tours to Japan and Mexico, and at Governor Patrick’s inauguration. This year when King Abdullah of Jordan heard them in Boston, he was so moved he suggested a future tour to his country. Besides singing in homeless shelters, at community events, in religious venues of all faiths, they collaborate with some of our leading musical institutions. They have a great future, and you can be part of it.
